The Room

Photobucket I know I should move on in my blog entries (and not talk about the hospital ordeal anymore) but I just needed to write this down.

Our hospital room (when Matt was hospitalized) was nondescript and sparsely decorated. Dull, really. And bare. There was nothing in there -except for a bed, a bedside chair and table.

No TV. No refrigerator. And a phone that doesn’t function. I couldn’t even get my iTouch to hook up to the internet there!

My parents, of course, commented with my choice of room. Even disappointed - since there was no TV. I could have gotten a better room (since we have insurance) but I was happy with the choice I made.

Okay, although I consider these contraptions as blessings, sometimes, I also see them as distractions. Sometimes I get the feeling they keep me away from my son - and vice versa. I spend too long infront of the PC. And my son spends more than the allowed time (for kids his age) on TV.

So having none of these contraptions was a blessing. A huge one.

Having none of these contraptions for 5 days means I had unlimited bonding time with my son (especially during daytime since my mother kept us company only at nighttime).

Me and him. He and me. We’d sing or listen to songs in my iTouch. We’d play. And most of the time, we’d read his Bible.

And a couple of days before we checked out, my son showed me the prize of my undivided attention: Matt, 2y and 8mo old, completely and properly recited two of his favorite nursery rhymes.

i hope your son fully recovers his health soon… i’m sorry to hear he has been hospitalized… but i guess, it’s a blessing in disguise because as you said, you were able to have some quality time with him… sometimes, it’s good to go back to the old ways — when TV and internet are not part of our lives and good old-fashioned reading/telling of stories is the best way to keep us entertained… anyway, congrats to Matt for having recited his two fave nursery rhymes… you must be one proud mother…

by the way, i know this has no relation to the topic, but i don’t know where else to post this… about taking a photo of a reflection on the water, i think the trick there is that the water should be still (well, at least on the surface) and a sunny cloudless day… i’m not so sure but so far, that’s how i was able to do it… and about us being able to visit wonderful places, i guess it’s because here, cars are indispensable and the country is one big mass of land (more or less) so getting around is easy… if we are in an archipelago like the Philippines, i believe traveling is a different story :)…

so much for my out-of-topic comment… i really hope your son has fully recovered from his illnes… have a blessed week!

    HiYa

I have got to ask you a question but I am worried about showing my ignorance or offending you so I really hope I don’t. I love reading your blog and the way you write your posts. I have often wondered how come you speak such wonderful english, way better than myself!? I just read your post with your little one reciting doctor foster (which is brilliant by the way) and again I am wondering how come they teach doctor foster poems and how come he has such good english too?

Hope you don’t mind me asking :o)

    Hugs

Sorry to hear about your son. Keeping you and your son in my prayers.

I do agree that all these wonderful modern contraceptions can be detrimental if we don’t use them in moderation or become too dependent on them. I’m also guilty of this offense *oops*

    Have a blessed day!

I appreciate that your TT post is about all the things you didn’t have–and how that allowed you to focus on the more important thing: your relationship with your son!

I hope your son fully recovers. I will pray for you and your family.

I love that you let go of all of the noise just to take time to enjoy the peace with your son. Television and modern conveniences sometimes eat our time anyway.

Thanks for sharing and reminding us what’s important.
